Workshop

Human-AI Teaming for Autonomous Systems in Public Safety and Crisis Response

Human-AI Teaming in public safety and crisis management share all challenges that are associated with everyday use, but in high-risk settings. Tools and methods for understanding the interactions that take place between humans and technical systems in such high-consequence contexts are therefore of uttermost importance to develop new capabilities to cope with future crisis.

The workshop will identify and address current research challenges in Human-AI Teaming for Autonomous Systems in Public Safety and Crisis Response and explore opportunities that WARA PS offers for addressing them. We will see demonstrations of new tools and system components supporting Human-AI teaming and invite short presentations from academics in WASP and WASP HS, including PhD students. We invite academics (senior researchers and PhD students) - and industrial/societal experts/problem owners working in R&D.

We begin with a presentation of the current research capabilities developed around the WARA PS Core system, including the Joint Control Framework for analysing Human-AI interaction. The purpose of the workshop is to discuss what challenges that has not yet been addressed within WARA PS, focusing specifically on the context of Public Safety and Crisis Response. Participants are encouraged to bring own tools that could be relevant in this domain (see below). This will allow for discussion about research challenges, and where and how in the crisis response (C2) cycle these tools could be useful. Tools that can be of operational use, or research use, are both welcome.

Program for Tuesday September 16th, 13-16h

13.00 - 13.30 Welcome and introduction to the workshop on Human-AI Teaming for Autonomous Systems in Public Safety and Crisis Response

13.30 - 14.15 Demonstrations System and tools for Human-AI Teaming . Discussions on current needs for tools to support human-AI teaming research in the WARA-PS arena.

14.45 - 16.00 Workshop with participants on current research questions and challenges.

Call for short tool and simulation capability presentations

If you have a tool – from your organization – that you would like to present at the workshop for potential use in WARA PS, please send an abstract to the organizers, [email protected] describing what it is, and how it could be used. The abstract should consist of a short paragraph (max. 300 words) pitching the tool with a picture or screenshot of your tool.

Please sign up by either adding this statement (WARA PS Human AI Teaming Workshop) to the comments during WARA PS registration – or by email to [email protected].
